This simply provides the correct date and day of the week for today! Its only option is to alter its position on your desktop. I find it sits easily above the trash can (or just over the analog clock which I put just over the trash can). You can elect to have it open at startup by checking its name in the Preferences dialog (under the File menu). Clicking on the current date will incidentally update the calendar to today's date too.
